Things We Hate: Bridalplasty

The Bride
I’m not sure if I have been out of the popular culture loop for a while due to the elections, but it wasn’t until today that I saw a commercial for a reality show that makes me want to puke. The show is called Bridalplasty and based on the commercial it appears that women are in competition to go under plastic surgery for their wedding.

The first time that I saw the commercial, I immediately thought, “This is surely a joke. I just know that television show wouldn’t have women compete to ‘go under the knife’, as the commercial said, so that they can look pretty on their wedding day. That’s not a real show”.

Boy was I wrong. In fact, that’s exactly what the show is about.

Many women and girls already have some major hangups with body image. And the notion that our wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of our lives (as opposed to when we graduate from college) is constantly shoved down our throats since the day that we are born. Now we have an irresponsible and unethical show that socializes women to think that we’re only worth something if we look absolutely perfect on our wedding days.

Check out the following sneak peak video:

I happened to catch this show on TV and decided to watch a bit of it. It is sad to see how the women are getting “fixed” by risking their life going under the knife when they need psychological help! This one woman said something like “I need this so badly. I feel so deformed.” I was thinking to myself, ‘this person needs psychological help not surgery. That will not fix how she feels.’

Very sad to see how society solves issues.
