Will Investment in “Hispanic” Media Increase the Latina/o Vote for Democrats?

Today the Democratic National Committee announced that they are making the largest-ever investment in Latina/o media during this midterm election. Maybe I am a cynic, but I somehow feel “used” about all of this for some reason, but maybe it is a step in the right direction. We’ll see if the Democrats really represent the interests of the Latina/o community, or if they are just in need of the Latina/o vote.

The DNC released an ad in Spanish that will be aired on Univisión networks. To me it would make much more sense to air more ads on English speaking stations also, and market more to the younger generation of Latina/os in a different way, but hey, what the hell do I know, I’m just a lowly grassroots activist. Marketing to Latina/o voters really needs to consist of much more than just putting an ad in Spanish, as in this case. Here is the text of the ad:

Putting our people back to work.

And keeping the doors to a college education open for our children.

There’s still much to be done.
But Barack Obama and the Democrats have never backed away from taking on the problems of our nation.

And they never backed down … not to Wall Street … not to the insurance companies.
